I pulled it into the shop past week. Pulled the plugs and tappet cover. Squirted oil into spark plug holes and oiled the valves under tappet. After letting soak for a day, turned the crank via belt and it turns. EXCEPT the tappets are not moving nor the distributer rotating. Diagnosis: Timing gear has the cogs off in a section. My question. would it make much sense in swapping out the gear and the crank gear with stuff already in stock or should I just pull the engine and replace it with the running 216 which I pulled from my 51 pickup driver? My intentions are to get this panel running and then turn it over to one of you fellow Bolters to get it back to being "road worthy". I have my "Money Pit" pretty much Done and enjoying!

Hello Jerry;

Does it matter to you if the motor is original or not? Does the cam move at all or do you know? Myself I would try to keep original if possible.

I had the timing gear break on a 235 years ago. I put a new gear on and she ran great after, no damage done.

I stand corrected, I had someone watch the rocker arm and IT IS moving. Think I will let the valves soak a few days, disconnect the wiring nest week, put in a 12 volt and run the starter over a few times, If all looks good, fire the point circuit with a 6 volt charger and start the old girl! Life is looking GOOD!
