| | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 74 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 74 | I am replacing the floor mat (cutting it myself from a 6 foot by 3 foot piece of 1/8" thick mat material) in my 1966 GMC 5500 truck cab and need a shifter boot to finish the job. All I have now is a hole in the floorboard and what looks like the remains of a foam ring between the floorboard and the new process (my guess based on shift pattern) five-speed transmission. There is also a two-speed rear end cable (to vacuum switch) going through the same hole. Does anyone have a suggestion about what to get and where? All I can find are boots for the pickup truck four speed transmissions. The hole diameter is about 4 1/2 inches.

| | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 108 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 108 | We used to have a '68 GMC dump with the 5speed/2 speed setup and I might recall that the axle cable was strapped to the stick and shared the same hole in a round bellowed boot.
What jumps to mind is one of the "small 4x4" with the transmission stick and T'case stick sharing the same two hole boot.
Anyway, look on eBay for truck transmission boots and I bet you'll find one that'll work. | | | | | Joined: May 2013 Posts: 4 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2013 Posts: 4 | GM part number is what I used on my 1961 C60. They show up on eBay all the time. Search that part number and look at picture, it has small "X" cut in boot for hi lo selector cable.

| | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 120 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 120 | I fitted a 5 speed to my 47 and the best I found was, I think, a ford pickup 1968 floor change boot. It big, tall, round, looks the part and screws to the floor with a steel reinforced flange.
Plenty of room in it and plenty of flex.

Thank you for the shift boot lead. I agree that the GM No. 15625828 boot looks like it would work. But I can't find the metal ring that holds it down. Do you know a source for the ring?
I am also unable to get the knob off of the over/under cable, so I am guessing that it needs to come off at the switch under the truck?
