Does anyone know the correct way to remove the old dried and hardened rubber window seal from the inner door on a 41 Chevy 1/2 ton? I know I can dig and prod with an awl or other tool, but I don't want to deform the channel. I am thinking that there may be a way to soften the old seal that will make the removal less labor intensive.

Mine softened in the derusting tank (water + lye), but I still had to do some picking with an awl, carefully of course. They were rotten so they had very little tensile strength and couldn't be pulled out intact

I had to pick mine out, and I had to deform the channel a bit to get the new ones back in anyways...

Thanks, Sput and 46gmcpu for your advice. I always check with the pros when I'm charting new territory. On this one, looks like my initial course is confirmed.
