I'm working on the doors of my 50 3800 today and notice that the passenger side latch is shot. It looks repairable but with new latch prices around $35.00 replacing might be the easier route.

I noticed on Carter's site he sells latches for 52-55 doors. Is there a dramatic difference between the 52-55 latches and the 49-51 latches? Do the newer latches work better? I'm assuming the strike plate is different but those are cheap. Easy swap? Or am I opening a can of worms that will stink-up the garage?

Thanks - Bruce

The 47-51 latches work with turn-down exterior handles - the 52-55 latches work with the push-button exterior handles.

I have found that it is a good idea to replace the latches and catches as a pair, at the same time - they match each other better than a new piece matching an old piece.

Ah. Well I prefer the turn-down exterior handles better than the push-buttons. Sounds like I might have to make a run to my local junk yard. They're getting to know me too well over there.

Thanks for the info Tim.

The two latches have different mounting hole locations in the doors. Can't just swap out a 51 into a 52.
