I picked up a 1955 Cameo and I thought you could NOT tell if it was a Cameo or not from the vin?

I would like to know if there was a trim tag of some type on them to distinguish if it's a real Cameo truck?

Thanks

There does not seem to be a way to use a Vehicle Serial Number to distinguish a 1955-2nd series Cameo 3124 from any other 1955-2nd series 3100 truck.

no way at all to tell, except some year[s] had the 3124 fender emblem, maybe just 57?

But, that emblem could be placed on a non-Cameo truck?

Thanks, that's what I thought also. I had checked into this before and got the same answer, but the guy had me questioning myself.

The 55 and 56 i believe chevy trucks were available with a cameo option. As such they are not noted in the VIN nor on titles.. they were a 3100 model truck. In 57 they became a model (3124) and were noted as such in VIN and titles.

dirtball, maybe you have pictures of vin tags and titles that support that? the FAM [actually a 55 document] shows Cameos as model 3124 from the beginning, and they were until they were discontinued in mid-58, regular pickups are model 3104, but there is no exact model info in the factory vins, any 57 pickup has a vin starting with 3A, and AFAIK 57 was the only year for the emblem saying 3124 - also I've never seen a title with the model number, titles just say 'pickup'

The 1955.2 was the first year for the
Cameo Carrier, Model 3124,
as Tim posted above.

All 3100 series, 1955.2, are H255 which makes it difficult.

A factory installed vin tag for the
55 Cameo, should at least be H255.

There were a little over 5000 or so produced in 1955.
