Looking for help in rebuilding Inline 6 235 - maybe even with a bit more attitude,... Any videos, photos with instructions. Would like to do some modernization to the starter, ignition system, generator/Alternator, fuel system. Any suggestions?
The ignition could be upgraded with either a Pertronix to keep the stock distributor or you can refit an HEI type distributor. An alternator is mainly a modification of the generator bracket. You can keep it 6 volt or make it 12 volt. A 6 volt starter will work with 12 volts, as long as you don't hold it on to long. Fuel system, you can go with a multi carb set up and split exhaust, we even had ne fellow retrofit a throttle body setup on his 235 engine. You can get manifolds for 4 brl carbs too. I guess my first question might be what year 235 engine are you using and in what?
Its in a 1958 Apache 32 fleetside. Thanks for the quick responses!

Hidiy Jay32- Welcome to Stovebolt! Try to drill down your situation a little for everyone:
Does the 1958 Apache 235 engine turn over? Will it run? Why does it need to be rebuilt?
What do you consider a "rebuild"- a complete engine teardown to the individual components & built back up, or just the (my broad definition:) external changes you mentioned?
The ignition, starter, generator, & alternator questions & answers would usually be in either here in the engine shop or electrical shop forum (depending on the question), and you can search to see what options there are. John hooked you up with some good info there already, and everybody will be glad to help once you lay out the situation alittle more specific.
1958 was a good year for a 235 engine. You have full oil pressure. One thing you might consider is changing your engine over to a full flow oil filter system over the partial flow system it has now. During a rebuild is a good time for this change. Wish I had known about that, before I did my engine. There is an article on how to do this in the Tech Tip section on this site, along with some other good articles on how to....
More specific,.... Will do Brad,... It does indeed run,... 67,000 original miles on it,.... Would like to open it up for a look-see,... I do have a good contact near by but, he is battling cancer and is in treatment for 8 weeks - he is a 6 cyl fanatic - he will be excited to know I decided to stick with the 235,... In the mean time I'd like to have some direction (you guys here are giving me some as I type),... I like the suggestion wetwilly5757 PM'd me (Patricks Antique Cars and Trucks) if I am saying this right,... I'd like to do the smart checks internally and then Modify with performance stuff and external support (Alternator/starter/oil filter system/carb and such) thanks for the input - this link below was inspiring - even though it is a 292 -
