First up, steering box - manual - it's the original and there seems like there's more play in it than I remember, like holding the steering wheel - original - there's like maybe 2 or 3 inches either side. Even as I write this I'm thinking someone's gonna say dude....you serious!? I think I could get used to it like I don't notice it. Like lite coke? Okay ,so on the chance I might have to replace, what's the options. Like for like? Or is the a performance upgrade alternative by one of the aftermarket brands?

What make/year/model truck?
Have you gone through the Shop Manual procedure for adjusting the steering box? I put it off for years, but when I finally did the adjustments, the result was remarkably good.
Depending on your skill/tool level, you could rebuild your steering box. Or, you could have it rebuilt (Rockauto.com provides that service for many makes/years/models). From/in the UK ???

I do not know about 63 C20.
Check the 1963 Shop Manual for adjustment and play (they should be described). The play you describe seem to be a lot of play.
Rockauto uses Lares Corp for rebuilding. Rockauto does this for a slightly lower price than Lares and much lower shipping cost (for 1947-55).
