I have a 65 c50 winch truck. it was used in a salvage yard and the bumper and fender were used to push old cars. so now I'm on the hunt to find replacements. I know you can't buy news one so been looking through salvages and farmer pasture. I was kind of lucky today to find a perfect set of fenders off of a GMC c5500. from the looks of them I know the flare is wider than what I have on my c50. I'm just curious be worth trying to cut then flare down to match. or just keep hunting. I'm going to go ahead and get the fender just in case I can trade out for what I need. or could I use an offset on the axle to make it look normal.or even put wider axle. I'd really like to keep the original look to the truck. I'm am new to the big trucks so don't know much about them. I have been reading a lot forum on here but haven't found where anyone compares GMC to Chevy difference and similarities

Welcome to the "Bolt"! trere are a bungh of the '60-66 "big" trucks around here,but the fenders are toast. It's hard to find a good set of "Big Bolt" fenders!Is the axle still intact,(wheels,hubs,steering linkage),on the G.M.C. 5500? Does it have Dayton,(spoke)wheels? If the axle incorporates regular "Budd's",you should be able to swap the G.M.C. axle,for the Chevy,without too much difficulty. If it has "Dayton's",you may want to swap the rear axle,as well. Good news is,radials are easier to install on the "Daytons",since the rims are simply bolted to the spokes! The bigger Chevy's used the flared fenders,as well. if the 5500 is complete,and you're able to get it for a reasonable price,this may make a good swap! Good luck!

the GMC has Dayton wheels on it and air brakes. I'm trying to keep from switching to air brakes. I'm thinking that I can cut about an inch or more strip out of center of the GMC and weld them back together. I'm getting the truck for just hauling it off the and what I get for scrap price. but I'm gonna take everything off that is usable.

If the 5500 is nice enough to have real nice Fenders on it, it pretty much sounds like it could be a Restorable truck. It's too far for me, but I would love to have it, lol.

But if it is a parts truck and you take the Fenders off of it, I would at least try to trade for what you need. The Wider Fenders are harder to find and worth more money, but if you are willing to trade, I'm sure someone out there would be willing to go to way out of their way to find what you need. That way you would both get what y'all need and you wouldn't have to do any cutting and welding to boot.

that's what I'm thinking. and now think gonna get the whole truck. its is a 5500 tandem with either the 348 or I'm hoping the 409. I'm gonna take closer look at it today. the guy told me he would sell it to me for scrap price. that why I posted my 292 for sale over on the parts for sale.

If it is acutally a "W" Engine (348 or 409), in a GMC it won't be original.

Sounds interesting though.

it turned out to be a v6 401 gmc. when I looked at it the first time I just glances at it kinda looked like bbc. but it turned out to be v6

Be careful. What seems like a simple operation to take a 1" slice out of a fender can get as complicated as chopping the top on a car. Be patient in your search for the proper fender.
