Tore out all the old wiring... I'll have to get some pictures up on photobucket... some of the hackjobs the PO did... wow.

Aldo, tore apart the carb, cleaned it out really really good, blew out all the passageways, and rebuilt it and got it put back on the truck. I'll see if that fixes any problems once I get all the new wiring put in

Over the last week and weekend:
- Took a test drive and have now confirmed all gages work
- Took the family for ice cream
- Ran errands on Saturday and found an electrical gremlin (drop-down resistor for blower motor blew up)
- ordered a different resistor; considering new wiring for heater

Most importantly:
- Took it to a parking lot and taught my 16 year old how to drive a 3-speed!

Replaced ignition switch (previous switched last 110 miles), leveled bed/box (it was just a bit off after restoration), leveled rear bumper, re-greased chassis, lubricated choke cable (don't forget to do this with new cables). She's now ready for the second 100 miles.

BDammers47 "KOOL" How did that turn out? Good I hope. There's a lot of people that don't have a clue how to drive a stick. That will be an experience your 16 year old will never forget. Back in the sixties, {boy I'm getting old} they made you learn how to drive a stick in drivers ed.

Back in April my three speed transmission failed while in route to a Swapmeet and I've been sidelined ever since. Talked to a fellow Inlliner who just happened to have a rebuilt three speed in his shop ready to go. Ran into him Saturday at the Fredericksburg Swapmeet and paid him for the transmission and talked about when we could schedule taking the truck to his shop and the two of us doing the tranny swap. I think I'm going to go ahead and install a new clutch and pressure plate while I'm in there. Would probably be a good idea to put in a new rear main rope seal also. Sure will be good to get it back on the road!

55 SHAKER,

It went well. He wasn't too hard on the clutch, or the starter. The manual steering didn't phase him either.

We had a good time and I really enjoyed teaching him. He's not ready for city traffic yet, but will get there in due time.

Thanks for your comments. Passing the truck thing on to my sons is one of the things I enjoy most about this hobby.

Best regards,

Bill

Installed out of sight auxiliary fan to help keep things cool, and added a front anti-sway bar. The fan is set up with an on/off switch because of ease of installation. Might change to a thermostatic control later. The sway bar was an easy install and made a big difference in how the stock suspension worked.

As most of you already know, as one gets one thing finished on your "bolt" two other things show up that have to be done. Nature of restoring one of the things. I got the two Rear lower cab corner patch panels installed over the last three days. Ground doen to "erase" the ugly and the firs layer of bondo applied. This was a milestone. While the cab tilted up to make welding easier on the corners, a lot f scraping and cleaning was done on the underside. The cab is sitting on its rollaround dolly. The cab and its dolly are un der a carport and it is subject ot he hot afternoon Texas sun, so when the sun gets to the cab I quit cab work and go inside the shop and work on the chassi. The left front springs were dissassembled and cleaned and left side are reassembled. Right side gets done today.Kingpins have been ordered .

Im finally getting something done on my 45 GMC 400 series, 2 1/2 ton.

In the month of July I got the frame sandblasted & painted, & things are going back together.

Ive got the rear springs & rear axle installed. Hopefully I will have the front springs & axle installed in a few days.
It's all time & money.
Last year I rebuilt the Front axle, the 2 spd. rear, all 4 leaf springs, & all the brakes.

The entire truck is now in the garage, it just fits. The frame is 21 feet long.

I literally brought this truck from the driveway behind my house to my driveway in front of the house & into the garage, one piece at a time.

Finished up all the new wiring other than the head/taillights and the gas tank.

While the gauges were out, I went ahead and painted the face of the dash (I'll paint the top in brown when I take out the windshield).

Here's on of the old wiring 'fuses' I removed:

I hear you Jeff... I'm one piece at a time sandblasting. Hubcaps are the latest. One of them could not be saved, but 3 out of 4 hubcaps ain't bad.

I got the front and rear bumpers & brackets off-- with a torch, mucho sweat, a nutcracker, a 4' breaker bar, a good friend who don't mind helping, his impact wrench, a quart of PB blaster, 3 different BFHs, four bandaids, and some various 3/4" stuff-- they're slated for bead blasting this Wednesday.

I also removed the tailgate & inadvertently evicted some long-time residents, Mr. & Mrs Big Orange Wasp. Mr Wasp hit me in the nose with all his poison. I ended up icing my face from all the swelling.

Brad

had to drill and re tap harmonic balancer bolt to 1/2 20. I had used Loctite to keep it tight the first time I put it in. had to remove this week so I could take the cam out so I could remove a stuck lifter and it striped out the rest of the way when I tried to put things back together. I was shaking like a leaf but I was successful.

I TOOK THE TRUCK OUT ON THE ROAD FOR THE FIRST TIME since my engine and transmission swap!!! Less than a mile of driving... still having some carb issues... some slight backfiring... but it was magical!! Been a long time coming!

Finally got a control system for my air suspension,a basic pneumatic set-up,5 gallon tank and compressor,I didn't want solenoids etc.
I've previously been running with temporary inflation valves,a pain at shows etc.
Got the switches installed and i'm making a bracket for the pressure gauges to sling them under the dash to the left of the steering column.

There's only one 'casualty',the radio delete plate now houses the switches.

No dashboards were hurt in the making..... thumbs_up

Here's the end result.

Laid out and cut the bottom flange on the passenger side to 2&1/4. Slow going with the die grinder and wiz wheel. Couldn't get the blade to stay in the sawzall or I would have used it instead like Scott D says. first step on the Danforth crossmember install. Will do the drivers side tomorrow. Cut is 16& 3/8 measured from the front of the frame channel. Next step will be to locate and tack in the gussets inside th frame channel. Battery dead in the kodak or I would've taken pics.

Nothing major but added some 'bling' to the front end,I finally got my new bumper to replace the badly dented original, just a grill, hood centre strip and splash apron to get.....
It makes a huge difference to the truck.

I also re-installed the hood emblem after originally welding all the mounting holes up! blush

New bumper.

Beautiful truck Jackbolter!

I designed some taillight brackets in cardboard. Since I'm using a 53 bed on my 54, with 54 taillamps, I didn't think either of the years' brackets would work... so I designed my own, and think they will turn out great (and I'm sure I wont see them on any other truck!!

Thanks Jim,it's the original grill that to be honest was a bit beaten up when I got it,I just tidied it up a little but doesn't bear close scrutiny.(It's a 20 footer!)
I'd dearly love to get it chromed bearing in mind the re-pops are marginal (imo) to say the least, but the work involved to get it to a fit state to chrome is way beyond what I can afford right now.
The two lower bars in particular are a bit ropey.

I might just bide my time 'til i'm a bit more solvent.
It's lasted 64 years so far so another couple won't hurt. grin

I dug Marge out enough to work on her &&&& well I must have had brain fart about 2yrs ago(the last time I worked on the truck) because I realized I put a rear spring on backwards. Don't ask me how it happen but it did. So I crawled under the beast & removed in. Thank goodness for new greased parts because it made it very easy to remove. I got it out, put it on a work bench & called it a day. It was all my busted up old body could stand. Hopefully I'll be putting it back in today.
I also had to order a new floor jack cause mine died, so I bought two Hein-Werner 2 Ton Floor Jacks, one for myself & one for the kid. Figured if I was going to buy one it would be my last one & it HAD to be made in the USA & the kid had some China made junk...joe

Searched through all my parts to locate the right clutch, housings, etc. to put into my 60. Got it bolted up and aligned. Looking for my 6 cyl motormount spindles and getting ready to replace the motor mount on the 235 engine before installation.

After installing the 700R4 in my panel it recently started leaking at the front seal. Since surgery I'm not able to pull/push/lift very much. My nephew volunteered to pull the tranny and install a new seal. Took him two hours at his shop. Its in and no leaks. Took him two hours but then I was laying under there aggravating him smile
Heart surgery does a couple benefits.

Edit: the one thing I'll NEVER outlive is the fact that I ran out of gas in the panel coming home and had to call the wife to help. Yes, the guage works, I was just a bit tired and thought I could make it home. I think she's told everyone around here and will share with everyone in Kansas. LOL

I put new rear shocks on the '56. Adjusted rear brakes. Fixed broken connection on fuel sender ground wire I was unaware of. Drained rear end grease but don't have enough to refill it. She's still on jacks.
