For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 29 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 29 | Hey Gang, Greetings from just North of H-Town! After finishing up a '51 3100 for a friend of mine about a year ago, I finally bought a '49 for myself to tinker with. The '49 is all original except for a later, and tired, 235 Thriftmaster in place of the 216. It smells like old cows and it's so freakin' cool!!! The thing about this truck which is unique is there are only 2 very tiny pinholes on one running board and a few on the tail gate. That's it!!! I already knocked out the two dents in the fenders, and the rest of the sheetmetal is nearly perfect. I know, rare for this type of truck so I'm pretty excited about not having to do the extent of repair I did on the 51' (and all that darn blocking on the fenders....yeesh!) My plan is a budget restoration (not a show truck, more of a driver) with a V8 conversion that appears factory. I'll update this thread with pictures as I go and describe in detail what I do and maybe it'll help others out. I'm pretty excited about jumping into it. The '51 I did features a Mustang II, 10 bolt rear on Mopar springs, 56 Chevy car gastank under the bed with fender fill neck, a 5.3 Vortec from an 06' Tahoe with a 4L60E, and a whole host of other mods. 100% factory fuel injection, A/C, AM/FM/Ipod, custom console and bucket seats. Bed side wood is my design too with the spare mounted in the back. Hmmm, I guess I'll have to do some sort of photobucket thing to add pics. I'll try and get that up here shortly. Testing, 1...2....3!!!! 1951 Truck 1949 Truck Hopefully that worked! Cheers Dave | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,215 Moderator | | Moderator Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,215 | Hi Dave, welcome. With that many modifications, be sure to visit the HiPo shop. Some people still prefer the sixes to V8s, don't forget about the 292. Nothing wrong with a 5.3 either, I have one in my work van, runs like a top. Good luck.

Welcome to the Bolt, and keep us posted on your progress. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 29 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 29 | Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to starting on it. Already bought a 55 truck axle to swap out center sections, so things are progressing. I'll post up a thread in the other section for the build photos. Thanks for the invite!
Cheers

Other than those three weeks and all the reading I've been doing, these trucks are new to me. If your 235 is rebuildable, I might be interested in it, as mine's still got its 216, though it seems to be running great right now. As soon as I get the 12 volt conversion done, I'll start bringing mine out to Nifty 50ees. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 29 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 29 | EBS,
Cool! Yeah, my 235 is rebuildable I believe. I haven't torn it down. I'll be yanking out the motor/trans combo on Wednesday/Thursday. Headed over tomorrow to look at a 327/TH400 combo which will fit the bill for my mods. Already have a 55 Truck rear end ready for the swap out back.
You need a hand with anything just let me know. I went to N50 last weekend with my 69-1/2 A12 Super Bee. It's the one with the gray primered fenders if you were there. Won't be there tomorrow, but hopefully next weekend. I'm building some "deluxe" bed side wood for a '53 a friend of mine owns, and after building that '51 you see, I'm definitely schooled on the AD style.
Cheers,
Dave | | |
