I have a supposedly '49 3100 frame. And I have a '50 body to mount on it. But I bought them separately and have never worked on these trucks before. So here's a pic of the frame. How does the rear of the body mount to it? For that matter, how does the front mount as well?

The front mounts are bolts that go down through the floor from the inside, with a square piece of anti squeak between the cab reinforcement and the frame.
The rear could be interesting. I'm thinking 1949 used a single center mount, 1950 used two out side mounts that go from under the back down to each side of the frame rails on the outside.

Well I know I have no frame mounts on the frame so...any suggestions on what to do? I'm assuming the only thing on the cab are holes.

you'll need to either scrounge the center mount setup to use on that cab, or the later style frame brackets to add to the frame, I doubt there's any other way

I think I'd try and convert to the later type mounting in the rear.
Didn't the rear center mount cabs also have 2 rubber bumpers (one on each side) in the rear under the cab over the frame rails??

I have a frame which originally had the single, center rear cab mount (year unknown). I mounted an early '49 cab which came equipped with the two rear shackle mounts on it. I have an extra '52 frame which I used to take measurements for the shackle holes and drilled the holes in the older frame. (If I was Denny G, I would have made a template, taken many pictures and saved them on my hard drive, but I am no D.G.) I would not use the center mount on a '50 cab, as it lacks the center, inner-cab reinforcement structure (the one which prevents you from using the behind-the-seat gas tank).

Does anyone know where to buy cab mounts, either the 2 outer or the one inner? That is, buy the shackles themselves?

if your frame is a late 49 you might have the holes.

All trucks in the 3000-4000-6000 series use a common part number 3690029. The difference is only in the 1/2-ton which to the frame side uses brackets 3690045/46 LH/RH respectively. Even the 5000 COE uses the 3690029 on one side but uses 3703694 to the frame.

Mine is the same on my 50' 3600 it is next to the running board bracket.

OK thanks. Those raised holes aren't it (though I wonder what they are). I'll have to post another topic when it's time to get the precise location of the holes.

Is the body sitting on the frame though, or are these shackles actually taking the weight?

With that sort of weight on the bolt holes in the frame, how does it not tear the frame?

not sure of the weight, but its the cab and everything in it.

its a pretty critical dimension.
if your off, your front sheet metal wont align and body gaps would be off.

that's why the manual calls for shims there if needed.


A guy could make some spacer blocks the thickness of the dimension in the manual.
Set the cab on the blocks.
Bolt the shackle to the cab bottom.
Mark the frame with a transfer punch
using the holes as a guide.
drill
then bolt it up

Well this will drive me insane. In the manual it says clearance from bottom of cab to top of frame is 1 53/64. The mounts are just a square piece of metal and another piece of rubber but they don't add up to 1" by themselves so what's holding the cab up to 1 53/64" on the front mount?

The front rest on the cab support bracket, not on the floor pan.

Look at the top 2x4 in that pic, you'll notice the bracket.

The measurement is taken from the underside of the floor pan to the top of the frame rail, but the front mountings bolts go through a channel on the bottom of the floor to the frame. Usually needs a piece of 1/8" thick rubber between that and the frame support (give or take).

Thanks guys, that makes quite a but more sense. The cab is on the way and I wanted all this covered before it got here.

Saw another thread where someone covered the entire front mounting cleat with 1/8" rubber to help cushion the ride. Good idea.

Well if anyone has a pic of the rear of the cab you do. Do you?
