BTW, the new Hobart Champ is great! Doesn't do too well on sheet metal, though... Good thing I didn't get rid of the Mighty Mite!

You say the Hobart Handler (135?) doesn't work well for sheetmetal. I'm getting ready to buy a MIG unit and need to know - what's wrong with it? What feature does it NOT have that will allow one to weld sheetmetal?

I got the Champ 2060 welder/generator, not the handler. My welder only goes down to about 40 amps (I think) and I was burning through the upper radiator shroud that GL sent me. Remember though that I am definately not much of a welder when it comes to hard stuff. For the really thin stuff, I think I'll just stick to my Mighty Mite 110v welder I got from Eastwood about 7 years ago.

From what I saw at the welding supply store, I would say the Handler is an excellent piece of gear -- but I couldn't tell you how well it does on sheet metal. If it's a mig welder (I think it is) then it should be fine. My welder is not -- it's just a stick welder.

Good luck though. Like the others have said, I don't think Hobart makes a bad product. I'm really impressed with mine.

Glad to hear your welder worked out. Now we want to see pictures of your big truck with the welding outfit on a custom welded chassis that you can lift on/off when you need to go on a repair run.

Another nice paint site is www.paintchip.com and it has color chips and a store and tips and.....
On the welder's, you need a MIG and use the gas for sheetmetal to be good. I have used the flux-wire and it's not as clean and needs chipping just like a stick welder. I had a cheap one, hated it, and then bought a Lincoln 100. Lot's better quaility of gun and machine! sold it cause I wasn't using it and needed cash at time....DUMB! Brain fart! :rolleyes:
