On my 50 chev 3100 I have the drivers door glass out and want to change the glass run channel. but the the lower channel at rear of door is too narrow to accomodate the new glass run which seems to be the same as what came out .. when i removed the run a while ago I did not notice if the run went all the way down into the lower removable run, I just assumed it did, could that removable run been changed at some point , it does have weld spot on it .. maybe I can spread it enough to get the run in..It acually looks like it had its own built in run because the edges of it have a stainless bead on the edge and remnants of felt . any Ideas would help ....thanks Fred

I don't know about the '50 but my '38 car has an upper and lower channel. Hopefully someone has dealt with the same issue you're having and will be able to provide more information. Good luck with it.

As you can see front and rear channels mirror each other, front is welded in, the rear attaches with two screws on the bottom and one on the top. The way you are describing it sounds like the old channel is still in place. The front and rear channel guides are formed sheet they have nothing inside them.

Here is a slide set that should also help. I think you still have remnants of the old weatherstrip in the lower door, it all has to come out for successful replacement.

Thanks Tiny and Brad.. Brad those photos were most helpful .. It looks like someone has used a differant piece of channel and welded the bracket on the bottom .. At least this way I know what Im dealing with .. thanks again for the prompt responses.. Fred
