The Carter W-1 was a good looking Carburetor and the ones I have had, were very reliable, and super easy to tear down and or rebuild if need be.
About the only deal breaker is if the Throttle's Butterfly Pivot/Axel has worn the Casting holes really badly so it is sucking in Air there. and I fixed one like that by Brazing then drilling a careful Hole.
Easy enough to get a good used Iron Base if one has one which is too worn out there at the Pivot/Axel Holes.

Getting back from the test drive, the difference was noticeable. I sent the carburetor off to Larry Isgro on Long Island. He turned it around very fast (about a week). It's completely rebuilt with new bushings and the works. He even blasted the whole thing and repainted it as original. It really looked beautiful. I had it on my desk here for a day to just admire it ... At anyrate, I am very pleased with the rebuilt/renewed W-1. Hambone, Peggy and I will be taking a road trip tomorrow in our trucks up to Billy Marlow's (about a 4-hour round trip), but between the 4.10 gearing in the axle and the newly rebuilt carb, I am looking forward to some time in the passing lane  Keep the W-1 -- it's a classic carburetor that still gits 'er dun!

Larry Isgro is a good and reliable carburetor re-builder. He is also a very friendly and helpful fellow to talk with (if he has time to talk).

I need a carb for this upgrade, can't find a reasonable yf and I don't want a rochester B. My guess is it will run, if I can get one to fit the manifold but may not be optimal for the engine. The W-1 is an S.A.E. size 2 carb. The manifold for a 1954 235 would be drilled for an S.A.E. size 3 carb. Options: (A) use an adapter (opinion - looks hokey, but will work) (B) slot the carb mounting holes (opinion - same as above) (C) fill the manifold mounting holes, and redrill for size 2. Jon.

Just got my carb back from Larry and could not be more pleased. It was not only rebuilt but was painted and cleaned like new.
