Well, it looks like my '51 1/2ton may be missing something.. (it was in pieces when I bought it) there two supports on each side attached to the frame to support the runningboards...and should be three each side, looks like one was torched off about an inch from the frame and the other is missing rivets and all. Would all three supports be the same? I've looked around some vendors, but can't seem to find this part - does anyone know a source or did I miss something in the catalogs? Thanks for any help!

I got one from Mothertrucker who you can find in the swapmeet section. You drill out the large rivets and then install the new bracket with carriage bolts. From the outside the round head looks just right.

Keep in mind that "carriage bolts" are only grade #2 bolts.........

Check with some of the vendors (click on the Links button at the top of this page). I got 2 used running board brackets for my 1953 Chevy 3604 a few years ago from Jim Carter. Several of the other vendors have good stocks of used parts also.

True, very soft grade 2 bolts. I believe there are three holding each bracket times three brackets so that is nine per side. I know that will hold my little old 165lb frame. But then, who steps on the running board anyway?

What would you use? I certainly can't do any rivets like that.

Something wrong with #5 bolts? You can even find them Cad. plated if you obtain them from outside of "The Land of Fruits and Nuts".

Carriage bolts come in brass too (There are nine, right?) :p

What grade steel were the original rivets you think? Would that be a hardened rivet?

Thanks everyone - I checked Jim Carter they don't have anything new but are going to call me back about used ... American Classic sell used ones but you have to buy 6 ($135.00) - still looking...

Truckman's got it! All are diff. Diff angles, lengths, the whole works! Bow Tie Bits is one of best for used.
I just threw out a bunch off a 2-ton that were laying around when I cleaned garage. They don't work on small trucks either though! :p

Tom Myers truck parts in Miami, Oklahoma should have all the runningboard brackets you need.
I've gotten several of them from him for my 3/4 ton 52.
I used grade 8 fine threaded bolts, grade 8 washers and grade 8 Nylock nuts all from Fastenall (they are a national firm you can find them in the business section of you phone book). Put a washer under the bolt head, and another between the frame and Nylock. As the others have indicated here you will need a running board bolt kit to fasten the RB's to the bracket, Tom should also have those if he doesn't try Chevies of the 40's in Washougal, Washington.
