For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 | Got the custom bed finished for the 2 ton. Well, almost. The object is to use it as an implement carrier. http://s1276.photobucket.com/user/jsdesign2/library/The hoist is converted to electric drive. The custom bed frame delivered (finally), powder coated and was mounted on the lift frame. Rough cut and seasoned black walnut slabs were were provided by the client. 18" wide by 16' long, I milled them to 1-1/4 thick and made them into bed boards. Got the custom bed strips from Mar-K. Chose Douglas Fir for the stakes for a contrast. The loading winch still has to be mounted. The rest of the work on the truck will be on hold for a while as I make the rest of the black walnut into a dining room/great room table for the client. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Looking at some other pictures I see fabricated motor mount brackets, are they the final ones or only temporary? They look quite weak to me; imagine hitting a good speed bump, it seems they might fold.

After doing the black walnut bed, built a custom 10'dining table out of the rest of the wood. A couple other projects snuck in. First thing I did after I got it positioned in the shop was to start it so I could adjust the carbs while it warmed up enough to re-torque the head and redo the valves. It started to slowly back out of the shop. Luckily the rear end was in low so there wasn't any urgency to it. Changed plans and installed the Lokar shift mechanism. Nice piece of kit. Then built a setup to locate the old hand brake handle in the same relative location as original and hook up to the original rod. Lokar offers 2 handbrake units but none really work for the big truck. Much safer now. http://s1276.photobucket.com/user/jsdesign2/library/ | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 1,159 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 1,159 | Nice work,Jim!! Don't ya LOVE the sound of those "Fenton's"?? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 | I'll love it a lot better when the pipes are on. The bark is a bit much with open headers, especially inside the shop.
My custom exhaust shop is a week late with the stainless front pipes. Claim the bender broke and waiting for parts. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 1,159 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 1,159 | Mine was in the shop for a better part of a week, too, but it was worth the wait!! Plan on making a video,so we can hear it run?? I plan on putting it on a 1 ton Dodge chassis. I am looking for installing information on how to mate the cab to the chassis and where a good resource is for parts for my coe truck. thanks for all the help. Don't forget to send the editor pictures and your story for the Gallery. Now the Fentons are connected to the dual inlet/outlet Dynamax. The one with the internal X pipe. Sounds Really Great!
Quiet at idle, mellow at steady throttle, and a really nice BrrrrrrrrP when you add power.
Powerful but no bark.
The dynamax mounts great on the original muffler mount, just made a new strap. A couple of short sweeps for outlet pipes.
Now that I can hear the engine, no bad noises. Got the carbs basically balanced, idle mixtures set. Don't have a tach on it yet but gut feeling about 550 rpm idle.
Think the timing is pretty good - 18" vacuum.
There is no timing marks on the flex plate. I put a notch in the damper pully and mark on the front cover before I put the head on. Have to see what that looks like when I put a timing light on it.
Tomorrow re-torque the head, re-set the valves, dump the oil then play with timing a bit. No temp gauge yet (haven't redone the gauge clusters yet) but return hose felt good. | | |
