I have a '51 1/2 ton with no spare tire carrier. Does anyone know if the under frame spare carrier is the same for '52?
Thanks for the help.

Just my two cents...alot of the trucks don't have a stock spare carrier cuz they were a pain in the arse to use. If you don't mind having something other than stock, check my pictures. It's a crank/chain operated [IE:SIMPLE] lift. Very easy to install. It's from an 80's mini-truck. wink

The 51 was a new design and is the same as a 52.They're mounted diagonally on the crossmembers and swing out. They worked better than the old slide out ones on the 50's and earlier.

Hey,
Wait a minute. There's nothing wrong with a slideout carrier.

Actually I do like what Russntustin did. Looks very simple to operate.

I don't know if this pertains to the thread, but I ran into a tire width issue when I put massive tires under the truck. Fortunately, I already had the stock "swing&drop" carrier under the truck, but the threaded rod and hook were too short and the wider rubber wouldn't fit. I took the hanger hardware off the frame and went to Tacoma Screw, they gave me threaded rods 2" longer than the rusty originals. I bolted the diagonal "saddle" to the new rods and now it holds the oversized rubber like it was designed for it (the bottom of the saddle is barely above the bottom edge of the pumpkin). I doubt you could do this with the earlier slide-out carriers (although Russ' design will take any size), so I prefer the swing-out carrier.
