The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Windshield frame and v-bars

I have one of the bars that connects the windshield halves rusted together. I've shot penetrating fluid at it morning and evening for about 10 days. Still can't get it out. I'm now soaking it in a can of kerosene. Any words of wisdom?

Here is what i did, I used a piece 1/4 plywood cut it to shape of the glass, Make it as good a fit as possible, Slide it into frame, then lay it on a another piece of plywood[ or a shop bench that you can put screws into] that is larger all around by 3 inch or so,then shim under the plywood just enough to pinch frame with inside of frame down [ flat side] then screw to table/ply threw shims, with the v-bar hanging over the edge. Use more blocks around outside of frame, at corners and ends. GET THE IDEA ? TRAP THAT BABY GOOOOD. THEN with visegrips BITE THAT :mad: V-BAR as hard as you can close to frame end, THEN IT IS TAP OUT,FLUSH TAP IN,FLUSH. WITH SOLVENT, MANY TIMES . TAKE YOUR TIME. DONT RUSH. MINE took 3 hours. each side. The back and forth will get bigger then it will come out. . hope this helps

I must not live too far from you. I'm in Sammamish and am building a '41 3/4 ton.

What are you building? a '40 truck? Old trucks are rare on the Eastside. Do you drive it?

I am going custom/street rod route but definitely keeping the original character with inline six, crank out front window and whitewalls. Its far from done but I sometimes (like today) drive it around the plateau anyway.

Not as rare as you think, perhaps? I'm always seeing ancient iron rolling down Bothell Way, especially around the Lake Forest Park/Kenmore area. Over toward Bellevue it's all BMW's and Lexus' (Lexii? Lexum? Luxojunk?). I don't often go out as far as Issaquah; my favorite boneyard is in Woodinville, so my our paths may never cross.

There's a guy I see nearly every day heading the opposite way on Juanita drive in his 50-something Frod p/u. I usually wave (with all my fingers ), just to be sociable.

Yea, drop by some time. I'm on Front St going toward 18. 2nd house past Issaquah Care Center. Lil Red is in the driveway if I'm home. Can't miss it!

It's my everyday driver. I work in Federal Way so about 70 miles round trip. Stock body, 235, 4-speed, 3:55s, front discs. Monoleafs up front and rear spring kit in back so sits a bit lower. Always stuff to do, but nothing critical.

HedgeHog, yeah I sometimes wished I lived North or South just so I could see more old cars but there is nothing better sometimes than seeing an old truck or rod in a parking lot full of the latest minivans and suvs. LOL
