probird Wrench Fetcher P Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 59 alberta canada	Hi bolters Going to start working on my grill. I think it is just chromed steel as a magnet sticks. can I use my mig to weld it? buff it clean and have at it? Thanks.

Hot Rod John Shop Shark H Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 1,262 Central Colorado	I think I would try to lay down a bead in the back in an area that isn't noticeable first, just to see of it is indeed weldable using GMAW. The magnet trick doesn't necessarily mean it'll arc weld satisfactorily. Good luck, hope that helps! I don't know the condition of the chrome or if you plan to rechrome or repaint, but any welding near the chrome will damage it and require replating, if that's your plan. Where in Alberta are you probird? 1946 GMC Pickup - S-10 Frame, 455 Buick, TH400, original patina. My 46 GMC on Photobucket
