I think it is just chromed steel as a magnet sticks. can I use my mig to weld it? buff it clean and have at it? Thanks. | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 1,262 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 1,262 | I think I would try to lay down a bead in the back in an area that isn't noticeable first, just to see of it is indeed weldable using GMAW. The magnet trick doesn't necessarily mean it'll arc weld satisfactorily. Good luck, hope that helps! I don't know the condition of the chrome or if you plan to rechrome or repaint, but any welding near the chrome will damage it and require replating, if that's your plan.
