What is this for, and how do you know it's adjusted correctly?

I'm going to look further in the manual, just to see what it actually is for, because now you have me curious, too.

Modern term is what NVH? Noise Vibration Harmonics? Without it shifter might move too uncomfortably in your hand...
Just guessing.

Also this is a 2 or 2 1/2 ton truck.
I am thinking R-Bo may be correct about stopping the shifter from moving under a load. But it seems to be going the wrong direction for that, more like to restrict forward and backward movement??
