I am routing four wires from the Basic Classic Parts harness to the tail lights: Two 12g signal wires, and two 14g stop/running lights. When I get to the back, how do I connect the three wires that are routed to the right tailight to the ones for the left side? It seems like I need something like a "T". This may sound easy, but I'm new at this. Thanks

yes a T or other type splice - the ideal way would be to solder good quality bullet connectors on the wires [2 wires in connectors where needed] and plug them together so they can be opened in the future - can also solder the wires together and cover the joint with heat shrink tubes

You should have 3 wires to the rear. L & R brake/signal and tail light. Your 4th wire may be for an auxiliary brake light.

There should be 2 wires going to the right side, R brake/signal and tail light. You need to figure why you have 3.

As Red58 said, the harness you bought should be terminated with male bullet connectors. The tail light, brake light wires and wires to the separate directional signal lights should also have male bullet connectors.

You can buy female bullet connectors at your flaps that will do single or double connections.

Then make a mini 3 wire harness with male bullets on each end to go across the cross member to the lights on the other side.

maybe an add-on signal setup? one brake light wire, one tail light wire, R&L wires to separate turn lights

Yes, you only use 3 of the 4 wires. White wire not used with turn signals. Wire the common tail light wire first to the left light and then a jumper to the right light using the excess wire of same color.

a "jumper" is interconnecting wire, as in "jumping the battery" - a sketch:

driver light ----j-u-m-p-e-r---- > pass light

do you have single bulb/dual filament lights?
if so, one filament [brighter] is the brake light, which also serves as the turn light, one wire for each side from the signal unit [fed by the brake light switch] - the dimmer filament is the tail, one wire from the light switch, first to the driver side, also "spliced in" there will be a wire to the pass side, so 3 wires from the front .... if you have added on turn lights, there will be a different setup

I understand that most bullet connectors are used in audio applications. I have used butt connectors which lock together tighter. Its the same idea however. You can get singles or doubles. PICO makes good ones.

Denny's factory set up. (looks like just brake and tail)

My not so pretty connection .... It works
...pic.... I have some shrink wrap in place to protect that connection

In my pic you might see a 4th wire. It's for the back up Lamp

I ran my two wires from the right tail,to the left side at the rear... tucked in the cross member.
Tied the tails together at the rear and ran the one wire the the switch

The two stop wires run directly to the signal switch since my signal switch had the brake feature incorporated. 7 wire signal switch. Not sure if your signal switch has the same feature.

If you have a "universal" Chevy Truck harness that fits many years, it is possible that the extra wire is for a back-up light or lights. Chevy keeps some things, like color codes, forever, so this MAY be correct for you, Brown = running lights, rear, DK Green = brake/turn right side, Yellow = brake/turn Left side and Light Green = Back- up. I hope this helps.

best wishes,

Les
