Are you asking about putting a car starter on a truck? To the best of my knowledge all '54 trucks came with a stomp starter. My '55.1 panel did.

In 1948 (and later years), a 6v solenoid starter was used on DD (step van chassis) trucks. In 1954 (and later years), a 6v solenoid starter was used on Hydra-Matic equipped trucks.

Foot pedal starters were standard on manual transmission 6 cylinder trucks up through 1959. 6v was used until mid-1955 in Chevrolet trucks (Task Force trucks were 12v).

I do not think you can remove the electrical solenoid mechanism and replace it with the mechanical foot pedal mechanism (but, I am not sure about this)

I found this starter at a yard sale .IT looked very close to the one in my truck.IT cost me all of $3.00. I am going to try putting a old foot stomp switch on it some how to see if i can get to work. THERE IS NO SOLENOID ON IT OR PLUNGER ,just the arm that engages the start gear to slide forward. The way i see it all i need is power transfer ,that is what the stomp switch is for ,if not i just blew $3.00. Thanks for the feedback BJF
