Have a 235, flywheel has a triangle, a line,a circle and another line, assume these are timing marks as they have different color paint marks on them. Whats what? I put in a new distributor and cant get truck to run so I need to start from square 1 . Thanks in advance

The / in U/C is top dead center. The BB is for setting ignition timing.

And what would U/C stand for literally Richard, Upper Center????

There was a discussion in another thread yesterday that should
give you a simple way of dropping that distributor in and
setting the timing pretty durn close to where you want it. At
least well within the ball park so the engine will start right
up and then you can zero in on the ball with a timing light.

UC and U/C mean Upper Center = TDC Top Dead Center

Well yeah!!!! Tiny already said that Timothy, question was, does the U/C
really mean Upper Center???? Never cede that in any of the
manuals, always was referred to as TDC, wonder why they dint
stamp the flywheel TDC instead of U/C.

U|C (TDC) and 5 degrees off of it (235 flywheel, year unknown)

UC or U|C would perhaps be more meaningful than U/C?

UDC (U.D.C.) is used in almost all Shop Manuals for TDC valve timing.

Well I'll be danged, you would think after 72 years I would have
noticed everything at least once. Guess I should read the fine
print or maybe it's just my dyslexia but I've always read T.D.C.
into it when referencing any of the manuals. Or maybe it's just
that I have read Upper and Lower dead center and just forgot I
saw it that way:

So from now on the meaning of those hieroglyphics on the
flywheel should be crystal clear to all who stare in wonder.

Tim, what character did you use for the vertical mark? I use the slash mark because I don't see a solid vertical mark on my keyboard.

Not sure where you guys got the U C. I dont have those markings, and I dont have the BB. Ive screwed with this thing all day and cannot get it to fire. I pulled number 1 plug and got it on compression stroke and set dist to number
1 just so I get get it close. Its tries but fights hard. I have fuel , got spark, got good compression, its always the simple stuff that get you. I'm lost and beyond frustrated!

Could have bad condensor or points, coil etc etc. If you have some spares I'd swap those out. Check ign wires, easy to cross 3 & 4. Vacuum leak will make you crazy also. If you have some B-12 Chemtool spray, it's great for starting help. Keep at it you'll find the culprit. I had one of these same frustrating events, took me three weeks to find the disolved paper fuel filter living in my carburetor.

...some Call it a BB... It's a circular dimple in the flywheel...

Different years and engine sizes had different markings.

OK, that shows as a double vertical dash on my keyboard but it does display as a solid line. Thanks.

OK so keyboards ain't the same either. My keyboard: \, shift and |, Works backwards from tclederman.....hum... oh well it works.

My fly wheel has a delta/triangle, a BB and ....that is all folks.
On a 55-59 235 but,...it is a 6 volt flywheel so ... who knows.
My friends 57 235 has all three marks...so who knows. By the way his is a 12 volt as is the original spec for his truck. Not that that means much. After 55 to 60 plus years what has not been molested or changed on our trucks. And now I have to add keyboards..OK time for BEER!

Taint got time to read real slow Carl, with all I got on my
plate best I can do is skim thru the pictures.

Gonna be hard or darn near impossible for me to change my ways
now. Even though the book might say Upper Center, Me pop called
it T.D.C. as did everyone that I've rubbed elbows with over the
past half century plus a few, must be the part of the country
that I come from.

And once again, don't cha think this ones about burned it self out, no????

Dropped the nastiest distributor in I could find as a last ditch effort and the darn thing fired right up, runs great! Whatever....... Moving on
