What (year and car or truck) will a 1956 Chevy car manual 3 speed transmission fit?

What engines will a 1956 Chevy starter, from a 235 6 cylinder and manual 3 speed, fit?

That trans will fit bellhousings on all pass cars from 55 on, truck about 48 on. Starters need to be kept with original flywheel, all 235s will fit all chevs from 37-62. A 37 for example can go with later 235s just keep all original parts from bellhousing back.

the starter from a 56 235 will fit any 12V 235 [55.2 up], as Jim sez the starter and flywheel need to match

FYI, re. your 37 pickup, I want to clarify, you can make just about any trans/engine etc fit your truck. But you need to decide if you want to gut the entire drive train or just swap the engine. Bottom line, there are many solutions to your questions depending on what you want to have in the end.
Best of luck
Jim
