I picked up this power junction block for an alternator conversion from a newer Chevy truck (newer than mine) at the junkyard.

The flat jumper link between the two posts is tinned, probably for less corrosion and better conductivity. I like it.

Have any of you guys used these in your alternator conversions? More advice with these pleeease!

Although I might think out of the bottom of my brain too, methinks that item you have pictured is actually a thermal link...a fuse! The little tinned strip you have fallen in love with is the fuse element.

When things get too hot in Dodge, that little tin strip leaves town. Does this sound plausible.

not sure about it being a fused link, but cant be certain.

I snipped a wire from that tinned, flat link so I think it's a plain conducting jumper. I'll mount this on the firewall and use fusible links from it like is shown on the Mad Electrical page. Their power block is reasonably priced but I gotta watch my pennies.

There are a gazillion of these power blocks at the junkyard. I got mine from a truck that still had a hood on it so the block is in pretty good shape. Some showed some minor rust.

junkyards are a life saver, i dont know why but they are one of my favorite places to go. i usually spend a couple hours just looking around for cool stuff, and just looking at the different cars/trucks.

those terminals can be found on hundreds of different vehicles, i find them more on older s10 trucks and blazers then anything. usually mounted right above the engine on the firewall.

I put one of those on everything I build.
We have 3 of the pull your own parts yards in this area now. I walk through them all the time. It,s surprizeing the parts are already lying there. Small stuff 2 of them don,t even charge for.

same here, ive been to my local yard so much, one time 5 weeks in a row. they are getting to know and dont charge me for the smaller stuff either.

sweet, the yard i go to is having a %50 off Columbus day sale today, tomorrow and Monday. time to go get my power bucket seats for my truck. 2 seats for $25. you just cant beat that.

Ditto that drummin52. Save some $$$$ and go to your local yard and get the blocks off older S10's and Blazers.

Surprised but the last time I picked one of these up, my yard wanted 2 bucks. Seemed high, but I guess new at madelectrical would have be 7 + S&H......I am in North Jersey too so like anything else in SopranoLand the cost of doing business is pretty high.

im satisfied with the cost of parts at my local yard, nothing is ever over 100, you can get a v8 350, even a LT1 that runs, for 80 bucks. i got 4 doors for my daily driver - 96 grand am (long story - side swiped a tree on driver side, found a car with exact color but had power windows, so long story short i bought all the door for 110 total and wired my car for power windows.


the best time is when they have dollar days, pay 20 for the day (you can leave and then come back later) and every part is a dollar. they dont have many of them.
