I am finally getting around to posting a few pictures of my new project. An old friend has returned. I was abe to re-acquire a truck that has alot of sentimental value to my brother and I. Many loads of grain and miles of memories in this truck.

My Dad bought this truck new in 1966. It was sold in 1978 to a cousin. He then sold it to another party in 1985. The daughter and son-in-law of that man had ownership of the truck when I got it. They just happen to be the people that lease our farm land currently.

For the most part, the truck has stayed on our farm its whole life, just under different owners. At first glance the truck looks to be in fairly good shape. 45+ years of washboard gravel roads and stubble fields have taken their toll though. The cab has much cracking and is currently off to be repaired. Some sheet metal straightening needs to happen along with a complete new paint job. A whole lot of cleaning is in progress. Everything else that is broke or worn is being replaced. All rubber, seals, hoses, belts, tires and wood bed are all being replaced.

The grandkids will want to ride in "Papa's Big Blue Truck" so it needs to be reliable and safe. Tough finding a few parts but getting close.

Big goal is to have it ready for my brother and I, both, to haul loads of grain one last time this harvest. Just to make the licence plate "STLHLN" a truthful statement.

1966 chevy

Will post more as I get farther along. May take a little longer than hoped. Last week I almost ripped off the left front wheel to my pickup when I ran into a light pole; and the same body guy is working on both...

Okay, we've got Kevin's whole story in the Gallery for you to read. Be sure to check those extra pictures on Flickr. Impressive. A Big Bolt in action ... on a farm ... love it.

Thanks for writing it up Kevin.

It's nice that you were able to get it back. Nothing like a family heirloom--and a Big Bolt at that! It doesn't get much better than that!

Always good to bring back what makes up your memorable past . Trying to figure out what model the gleaner combine is , it looks too narrow to be a K , though that looks like a manual swing unloading auger on it .
We came across a pic of my Dad unloading a allis-chalmers pull type into his first truck a 47 chev half ton .

First time I saw this truck I said "That's the one!"

Hydra,

Isn't that a beautiful pix of the truck working with the combine? We are going to add it to the Working Bolts calendar (when I get that far). I really like that pix.

Oh, and I fixed the signature link (sorry). The '46 went to the old link (which is gone).

Just saw your post...never thought to look for comments on the story.

The gleaner is a CII (C2). Big machine in its day. Had a 20' header, 100 bushel tank, and of course...no cab. Dad ran three and had an 'A' as a backup. Had the 66 LCF, 63 LCF, and 2 58 Vikings at that time.
