Took my twins for a couple loops around the block- showed them how the pto dump bed works, then a quick bath and back in the barn. Was a good evening with my boys and our 1 ton.

Fourspeedwagon, having fun with the boys and the truck sounds like a great way to spend a day. These are memories they'll cherish.

What are the clamps on the valve cover? | | | | Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 92 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 92 | They are those chrome spreader hold down bars you use on V8's to equalize the hold down pressure, also used the chrome high rise bolts with those hand turn wing nuts. Yea, I know, not really traditional but I want something a little different. That's also why I went with Chevy Orange paint! Phil...

Also stripping out the nasty pressed steel lower MII suspension arms and strut rods in readiness for my new tubular lower arms. Hopefully these will cure my front end alignment/bumpsteer problems.... The single worst part about building these trucks so far from their home country is waiting on dang parts! I want to be out driving the flippin' thing......

Jim,thanks to the Stovebolt community and friends i've got based in Va. i've managed to avoid too many crippling shipping bills! Most vendors in the USA rely on Fedex,UPS etc.(expensive) although many have free shipping within the 48 States. I Had one quote from UPS of $112 to send one 1/4" brass airbag fitting from Illinois to Scotland..... What I do is I usually get the parts sent to my friends who then post them to me by USPS,thankfully i've never had to wait more than 10days. The main problem here with UK vendors is if it's a non stock item,it has to wait 'til they're bringing a container over, sometimes it can be weeks....

Work the last couple of weeks fixing the bed side panels on my '52 restoration. Got the first one smoothed with plastic filler and hung it up to paint. Oops, it fell on the floor from 5 feet up...ruined. Time to give Mar-K a call and order TWO new bed sides. Let me tell you something: forget fixing a surface rusted beat up bedside it simply is not worth the time and trouble when Mar-K sells an (assumed until I see it) excellent reproduction. Doh!
But, I did manage to get the spots welds "bondo-ed" out on the interior side of the new tailgate and covered in epoxy primer along with my new front panel and rear sill/cross member. I debated a long time with myself on whether or not to fill the spot welds on the tailgate. I answered my own question after applying epoxy primer and seeing the imperfections in the metal due to stamping of the "Chevrolet" and spot welds. It simply did not fit the bill on what I am trying to accomplish with my restoration. The spot welds will show on the 'exterior" side for a bit of remaining authenticity. | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 | I got the Old Air system charged on the '56. I wasn't planned, just spur of the moment! No problem Robert,I just had to ask.... On my own truck I managed to aquire the use of a decent MIG welder to finish the lower tubular MII arm installation, hopefully this will put and end to my ill handling. Bottom line,i've basically replaced my front and rear suspension set-ups over the past couple of months, finally got finished a wee bit late last night to road test it so will have a drive this morning, fingers crossed! UPDATE: Took the truck for a road test, delighted to say my handling gremlins have well and truly left the building.... It's like a different truck! Gone are the off camber white knuckle moments and vague steering, the truck feels planted and secure even at 80+mph,i've still some fine tuning to do but to say I'm a happy boy is an understatement!
