Pulled the ol' Jimmy out after a long winters rest, The choke and throttle cables were in need of lubrication and the throttle (dash) cable hadn't been hooked up since I've owned it so I got that done too. Took my twins for a couple loops around the block- showed them how the pto dump bed works, then a quick bath and back in the barn. Was a good evening with my boys and our 1 ton.

That is good to know, Jim.

Fourspeedwagon, having fun with the boys and the truck sounds like a great way to spend a day. These are memories they'll cherish.

So I finished (almost) painting the engine bay and have my new 235 just about fully assembled and almost ready for install. It's my daily driver so I am trying to get done ASAP! I'm hoping for a little more pep with the upgrade to the 235.

They are those chrome spreader hold down bars you use on V8's to equalize the hold down pressure, also used the chrome high rise bolts with those hand turn wing nuts. Yea, I know, not really traditional but I want something a little different. That's also why I went with Chevy Orange paint!

I finally got around to replacing my head light adjusters, old ones were cracked and my headlights were bouncing. I also started re-wiring my fogs. I am putting the switch in the original throttle cable location using the original knob to retain the stock look.

I got the wood in the bed last night. Started bolting it down to the frame. Still have to finagle the end cap with a dremel, the stake post holes are hitting the wood. Once that gets cleaned up, then I can bolt the end cap on. Then on to the stake sides!

Working hard on freshening up this old interior of my flatbed. Painting the interior, dash, doors, seat frame etc etc. Next it's headliner, windlace, door handles, panels, arm rests. Just takes time and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Removed the rear wheels, calipers and discs in readiness for longer wheel studs,i'm now having to fit 7/16" spacers to avoid some minor body clearance issues now my rear suspension works like it's supposed to!
Also stripping out the nasty pressed steel lower MII suspension arms and strut rods in readiness for my new tubular lower arms.
Hopefully these will cure my front end alignment/bumpsteer problems....

Are your parts shipped sea post or air freight?

Purchased a new dash for the '41 off sleezbay. Looked a lot better in the pictures than in person. Seller oiled the surface rust so it looked like brown paint. At least it didn't have any rust-thru and the bad pitting was all in the back. Took it all down to bare metal, rust primed it, then sand-able primed it, sanded it, and painted it. Installation went well enough.

Jim,thanks to the Stovebolt community and friends i've got based in Va. i've managed to avoid too many crippling shipping bills!
Most vendors in the USA rely on Fedex,UPS etc.(expensive) although many have free shipping within the 48 States.

I Had one quote from UPS of $112 to send one 1/4" brass airbag fitting from Illinois to Scotland..... big_eek
What I do is I usually get the parts sent to my friends who then post them to me by USPS,thankfully i've never had to wait more than 10days.
The main problem here with UK vendors is if it's a non stock item,it has to wait 'til they're bringing a container over, sometimes it can be weeks....

Dropped the driveshaft, and trans, pulled out the clutch fork, replaced it with an original one, put a new throwout bearing in, put the trans back in, hooked up the driveshaft again, and called it quits last night... all in about 2 hours!!

Rigged a neutral safety switch to the B&M shifter in the '56. It was a pretty easy job with a micro switch from Radio Shack and a Bosch type relay.

Got my new MII tubular lower arms fitted, upper shock mounts cut to size, just need a MIG welder!
The one other good thing to come of this is i've also attended to a couple of smaller jobs i'd been putting off (ignoring) as I had been too busy driving it!

More like what I did not get done today... Work the last couple of weeks fixing the bed side panels on my '52 restoration. Got the first one smoothed with plastic filler and hung it up to paint. Oops, it fell on the floor from 5 feet up...ruined. Time to give Mar-K a call and order TWO new bed sides. Let me tell you something: forget fixing a surface rusted beat up bedside it simply is not worth the time and trouble when Mar-K sells an (assumed until I see it) excellent reproduction. Doh!

But, I did manage to get the spots welds "bondo-ed" out on the interior side of the new tailgate and covered in epoxy primer along with my new front panel and rear sill/cross member. I debated a long time with myself on whether or not to fill the spot welds on the tailgate. I answered my own question after applying epoxy primer and seeing the imperfections in the metal due to stamping of the "Chevrolet" and spot welds. It simply did not fit the bill on what I am trying to accomplish with my restoration. The spot welds will show on the 'exterior" side for a bit of remaining authenticity.

No problem Robert,I just had to ask.... drive

On my own truck I managed to aquire the use of a decent MIG welder to finish the lower tubular MII arm installation, hopefully this will put and end to my ill handling.
Bottom line,i've basically replaced my front and rear suspension set-ups over the past couple of months, finally got finished a wee bit late last night to road test it so will have a drive this morning, fingers crossed!

UPDATE: Took the truck for a road test, delighted to say my handling gremlins have well and truly left the building....
It's like a different truck!
Gone are the off camber white knuckle moments and vague steering, the truck feels planted and secure even at 80+mph,i've still some fine tuning to do but to say I'm a happy boy is an understatement!
