I would like to know what year models use the same steering gear box as my 61 half ton GMC and also is it possible the 3/4's used the same unit? a friend tells me he had a Saginaw unit in a 70's pickup and dodges used the same box/ | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | 1960-66 interchange, 3/4 ton will also work. There is an adapter made to use the 1967 and later box.

I don't know yet whether I have a serious leak that started as I was driving it on the highway Wednesday or if when I removed the coil bracket mount bolt from the head yesterday the hole could possibly be open to the water jacket on the 305 head. I hope that's all it is and not something like a bad freeze plug on the old V-6. I sure hope it's not that.probably be some plugs on the back side that would be tough to get to.anyway one more hurdle to jump. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 2 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 2 | The water issue I had too! You're gonna hate it but its the freeze plugs on the back of the heads. BOTH of them need to be replaced. You can try some other "fixes" like a 2 part epoxy but then youre no longer going to have the plug go if it freezes. The only way to get the freeze plugs is to pull heads.
