Well I though I had this battle won until they showed up and I took them out of the box.

ES26L and ES26R DO NOT WORK, despite them being listed more than one place for this application.

Does anyone have a valid part number?
Do the 1.5 ton interchange with the 2 ton?

Hy puppy, my Canadian parts book shows the GM p/ns as right 5837382, and the left as 5837381, I did try and cross these numbers at the Napa and Moog sites, but had no luck.

My parts book has the Tie Rod Ends listed as follows

1940-46 W, Y, M, O (hvy. duty) assy., left (4-3/4 long) (1-16 LH thd)...603935

1940-46 W, Y, M, O (hvy. duty) assy., right (4-11/16 long) (1-16 RH thd)...603934

Hope this helps,

I hope so too!

I didn't think finding parts for this truck would be this hard.

OK bad news. There is a set of the above mentioned part numbers on ebay and they are not going to work. It is showing those as an internally threaded tie rod end. Mine are externally threaded.

Also what are the W M Y O designations. My truck is a PW model.

OK found some papers I had stashed away.

All designations below are for 1-1/2 ton, 2 ton, bus, and COE
Y=1941
M=1942, 1944, 1945
O=1946 interim
P=1946 late

I'm not sure what the W model is.

I wonder if the P series had a different set of tie rod ends???

Puppy,

W = 1940
Y = 1941
M = 1942
O = 1946 first design
P = 1946 second design
Q = 1947

I didn't know you had a 1946 second design, should have asked. The W in your prefix means you have a 160" wheel base.

Check to see if your front axle has 3681101 forged in the I-Beam. If so you need the following tie rod ends.

1946-50 2-Ton, DUBL-DUTI, SBC...assy., left (use w/3681101 frgd. on "I" beam) (5 long) (1-16 L.H. thd)...609747

1946-50 2-Ton, DUBL-DUTI, SBC...assy., right (use w/3681101 frgd. on "I" beam) (5 long) (1-16 R.H. thd)...609748

Doesn't mention male or female thread...

Hope this helps.

Filling Station - ML-20L and ML-20R

That is what I bought and installed on a '48 2 ton. worked perfect.

In case you need for future reference, I know looking for 2 ton parts is a job because most suppliers don't list anything over 1 tom;

ML-24 king pin set

FS-148 drag link repair kit

The description doesn't always sound like what it really is.

Mike B,
I do indeed have the 3681101 front axle. However I have found several references to the 609747 and 609748 being listed as 1.5 ton units.
This reference is from collectorsautosupply.com
1946-59 1 ½ TON TRUCK L.H. HEAVY DUTY TIE ROD END 609747 NOS $54
1946-59 1 ½ TON TRUCK R.H. HEAVY DUTY TIE ROD END 609748 NOS $54

Ebay has several of the same descriptions.

Not sure, maybe they interchange?

How do you have so much knowledge of these big bolts?

Thanks Jim Sears, I'll look into the FS parts.

puppy,

The 609747 & 748 ends were also used on the Optional Heavy Duty 1-1/2 ton front axles, which is the standard axle on regular duty 2-ton trucks. That may be where the confusion come from. Do the pictures on ebay look right?

You asked "How do you have so much knowledge of these big bolts?" Lots of books and years of research.

For future reference, Mike B nailed it with the info he provided.

609747 and 609748 are the correct part numbers for the 1.5 ton HD and the 2 ton tie rod ends.

Thanks!
