The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk '47 - '53 dash in a '54 early '55 cab

Have any of you fine Stovebolters ever replaced a '54 or early '55 dash with an earlier dash (47 - 53). If so, can you describe any issues and also provide pics if you have them? This is for a friend of mine with a '54 cab who wants to go with the earlier dash. His biggest concern is the curvature of the top of the '54 dash (due to the one piece glass) versus the 'point' of the earlier dash due to the two piece glass. Anything can be done. The question is always, how good are you at fabrication, and has your mother ever had you checked for sanity, and what were the results? Why not sell the 54 cab and buy an earlier cab? I have replaced a 52 dash and it was a major PIA. I can only imagine the problems putting the earlier dash in a later cab. BTW, if I had to do it over, I would have scrapped the 52 cab and looked for a better one to start with.

Have to agree with Carl here, complete dashboard replacements in AD's is a lot of work. I have sold quite a few to people and just hogging the old one out is a lot of work!

This is an already complete, beautiful, running truck where the owner is just not happy with the dash. It was altered by a previous owner and '54 early '55 dashes are as hard to find as hen's teeth.

It is not a bolt in situation. The dashes are spot welded in and it is a big job to drill spot welds to take them out.

The thought was perhaps 'grafting in' the older dash to the new one, leaving the original lip near the front glass. I appreciate the responses and will pass them along. Thanks S.B.s!

That would probably be an easier way to go if you have good welding skills.
