I have some 1.5 and 2.5 ton truck axles that need some bearings. The originals are not made, so I am stuck with cross referencing.

Can anyone help walk me through this so I get the proper cones/races?

For my 1.5 ton truck banjo (Corporation) axle:

Rear wheel outer bearing
GM-144527 Bearing roller, spherical, 2.6252 4.4688 O.D. 0.975 width

also has part number HYD-KD12051Z

Is that enough to find a modern bearing?

Look it up @ Rockauto they're in all GM's just about.

Does it matter that none of the applications in the Timken catalog (I did download the 2013 full catalog) are not listed as the proper application?

None of my manuals have any later PNs than the GM-144527, so how 'confident' should I be that the new 9412426 will fit?

It looks like the 9412426 will fit a Tahoe sized truck. My truck GVW is about 2 tons more that that (11,000lbs Gross) and can tow another 3,000lbs

Looking at the Rockauto page the width is wrong:
Width (in) 0.8661

My original bearing spec is 0.975 width

This is my problem... I cannot find a spec for spec bearing.

How did you find this? I looked through the PDFs that seemed appropriate and no HYD part numbers were listed. Also a site search found nothing.

KD12051Z as a part number is all over the place and do not match all 3 numbers I have from the parts manual:

National® - Taper Bearing Set Part Number: KD12051Z Cup Length=0.7411

Timken KD12051Z wrong width Cone / Cup Width (In): 1.431

This is my problem... evidently the part number got 'reused' and no longer matches the original specs. That's why I am trying to match a bearing by the actual dimensions... the PNs seem useless.

I talked with a real parts person there and he confirmed your spec's to the 3rd decimal point from the first post... what can I tell ya?

Are you sure # 144527 is the outer axle Bearing ?

a INNER WHEEL BEARING

You say, it's an outer.

Inner or Outer aside... It sounded like this is the PN# off the bearing.

My old Bearing is stamped: HYD - KD12051Z

My old bearing GM # 144527
was superseded to: GM # 9412426

Is the new # the same as the old bearing ?

When I look at the vehicles that the new part number applies to the 9412426 is used on vehicles that were rated for 50-60% of the GVW from what what my truck is.

My truck grosses at 11,000. A most of the trucks that this 'new' part number crosses to are in the 6-7000 GVW range.

EMPTY my truck is more than these trucks GROSS.

That's one thing that is confusing me... is it a valid concern? I would be running these bearings at 2x the current design use. Yes, I will load it up to 10k+ (it has a dump body and I plan on using it).

Now this is confusing. I got an x-ref for Jim Carter part number MEB 944 for a 1.5 ton rear axle bearing.

This is like 1/2 the cost of what I am seeing for other bearings.

I'm not super confident for the source of the x-ref, they have been massively wrong before.

I'd sell the truck and buy something easier for which to find parts.

I may be making it harder than it needs to be. I have done that on occasion.

Yeah but GM doesn't make bearings and there are at least a six interchange part numbers for 9412426. Declo, SKF, National, Timken all list 9412426 in their interchange manual and none of them match the specs in the parts book for the axle I have.

I didn't read this but maybe you did this and I just didn't see. But take a micrometer and measure the shaft and the bore and try to find them by a size chart. Some of the larger cities have bearing houses that might pay you to look at or go to.

Timken does have a size chart so you can use the size of ther bearing to find the one that matches. But you may already have that.

P-man, with Chevrolet's habit of using the same parts through several generations of vehicles, I wouldn't be surprised if the ones called for in the newer, lower GVW trucks were the same as what you are looking for. If they fit, I would run them. You will probably break a leaf spring end before you crush a bearing.
