Just purchased a GMC truck project, have a 51 Dodge pilot truck that I was going to build, but body work and parts availability were more of a challenge than my skill level. My son and I are firefighters, me being a retired FF now, and we have fabricated rock clawing buggies and custom motorcycles, so fab skills and tools are not a problem. But finish body work and nice paint is a whole new world for us.
The project truck i bought has been completely disassembled, Tub work is 95% completed with new metal, doors blasted and only require some minor patches on bottoms, and the hood is great. The bed has a lot of rust and I will more than likely opt for new, as well as fenders and running boards. No motor or wheels, but the part that sold me was the TCI chassis with coil-overs, 4-link rear currie 9" with 3.7 gear, tru-track posi, and welwood disk at the corners.
My goal is to make a daily driver, I want the truck to look relatively stock from 5 feet, with a nice paint job and some chrome. Thinking 350 for a motor with 700R trans. Anyway wish me luck and I will definitely be looking for advise as I start putting my puzzle back together.

Tony, welcome to the Stovebolt page. AS John mentions, great folks and a wealth of knowledge here on the bolt.
Congrats on your purchase. Sounds like your going at it with the right approach.

Be sure to use the forums for your benefit. Paint and Body for those kind of situations and the swap meet for hunting or selling parts.

There are some bolters around the Salisbury/Greensboro/Winston so be sure to be on the lookout for them. Pete lives in Salisbury I think... .rides an Indian motorcycle and there is others.
It'd be nice to have a Southern gathering somewhere around your area. I know Spanky is down around Burlington. Lots of others.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
