In the process of removing the head from my 1950 GMC 228. I found only the lower fitting on the oil filter housing was connected to the Block. ohwell

The broken flexible pipe in the upper fitting (in the side of the housing) was blowing in the wind. headscratch

No oil looked to have passed either in or out of it for sometime. The engine had good oil pressure 50/55 on tickover and 60psi loaded.

Did you find where the loose pipe should be connected?

The flex should be crimped on to a line that went over the timing cover to a street T. When the flex broke, someone may have plugged it at the T. Its the same galley that oils your rockers.

Thanks I know where you mean.

Why or how didn't the oil continue to run out the hose end?? It not blocked!

edit

I've now cleaned the oil filter canister and can see it says inlet on the upper fitting.

Thanks for the help
