Is there any type of special chassis grease I should buy to grease my truck? 46 1/2 ton. I see red and black and all sorts in between. Also, for the parts that require a light oil (lube cups), what do you all recommend? 3 in 1? If there is already a thread about this I sure couldn’t locate it or find it in Tech Tips. laalaa

Thanks!

You can use a high temp lithium base grease for everything.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

light oil: 10 to 30 weight (the owner's manual states light oil or engine oil)?

3-IN-ONE oil was commonly used?

yes, an engine oil was commonly used in the day, but note that was single weight non-detergent oil

I would consider light oil to be anything other then gear oil. Any motor oil in the 0 to 40 weight range including straight 30 will work. One quart of 5W20 would last a long time for light oil lubricant.

I notice when changing oil in my mowers, the straight 30 weight is stringy and sticky where as the 10-30 poured right in. This could be a plus if you want the oil to cling to the shaft better. Straight Lucas oil additive would be a great lubricant for slow turning shafts, this stuff clings and strings to everything. I bought 30 weight oil for lawn mowers at my local ACE hardware for a fairly cheap price.

"No. 20" (SAE 20) engine oil was recommended in the generator "oilers" in 1954 ("fill to the top"), and a "few drops" of SAE 10 oil on the felt wicking on the top of the distributor cam.
