I'm trying to identify the 235 in my 51 3100. I know it's not original.From the casting number I got that it is a 1958-1962 235. Also cast on the block is the code F29. Does that mean June 2 1959? Also the stamp on the distributor boss is F603B.I know F is Flint and I think 603 means June 3 (right?) but I can't find anything anywhere to identify the suffix code,the B. Anyone know what I have?Thanks---Jack

Jack,

Correct on all identifications.

F603B
F = Flint, MI
6 = June
03 = 3rd
B = 235 with Powerglide transmission
(passenger car engine - and, Powerglide engines had hydraulic lifters)

I have a 235 which was in my 46 pickup when I purchased, the casting # is 3764476 and the stamped # is F512J. Can you help me identify?

3764476 was a truck block code from 1956 through at least 1961

F512J
F = Flint, MI assembly plant
5 = May
12 = 12th
J = 3100-3800 regular production truck (3-speed transmission)

That type/style of engine serial number was used from 1957 onwards.

If you want a date for the block/head, post the head date casting code and the block date casting code.
