Boy we're having fun now! The scraper seals hang up on the window frame, anyone have the same problem and a possible solution? The window won't go down past the contact point with the scraper at the front of the window. Thanks Scott
You may have to bend the channel on either the door or the door panel to adjust the clearance for the wiper seal. Did you crimp the metal so that it holds the seal?
Yes it is crimped in place, I have tried getting it as vertical as possible and it goes down fine without curling down with the window until it comes in contact with the metal frame, which naturally hapens first towards the front due to the slope of the window. If it ran the full length of the opening this would not happen but as you know the crimp groove dosen't run that far and there is nothing to attatch it to beyond it. Scott
I am not certain what to recommend from your description. Are you sure that there is no binding in other parts such as the window regulator and or track? Have you greased the lower window track and regulator gears yet? I found that a little grease in the right places made the windows function considerably better.
No evrything works great until the perimiter frame around the glass contacts the scraper seal. I don't see how this ever could haved worked, not sure what I am missing. Scott
My scraper seal extends past the end of the crimp groove at least 1/2" on each end. I have no problems with binding or it impeding the motion of the window. I think you have to have a good look at yours to see what's binding, this isn't "normal operation".
After days of fooling around and trimming them I have reduced them to 1/8" or less (not counting the round part that fits into the crimp) And the leading edge still tries to grab at the front when the frame contacts it, but it works. Thanks,Scott
[/[b]b]Don’t know if this will help with the discussion, but in working this stage on my ‘46 Chevy 1/2 ton I had the same problem. It was discovered there was in fact a difference between the products sold by Steele and Jim Carter’s. The Steele sweeps were wider diameter than those sold by Carter’s. A photo is attached showing the difference discovered. The Carter’s product was ultimately used. This experience was about 4 years ago, so their products might be different now. PLEASE SEE EDIT BELOW
EDIT on 12/12/2022: In helping figure this out and doing more digging and cross checking this is what I found. The Steele product was used on the outside channel and the Jim Carter product on the inside. Using all of one product or the other led to either to tight a fit to allow the window cranks to operate as needed, in one case, Steel. In the other the rubber was too narrow and didn’t “sweep” the window at all because of it didn’t sufficiently fit against the glass.
((A side note: A similar issue was experienced with the rubber cowel vent gasket. But, In that case the Steele gasket fit better than the Carter’
