maybe someone can help figure this out
I have a 54 235 car engine
the block casting # is 3835911 and the # stamped behind the dist ends in F54Z.

the exhaust manifold casting# is 3835587 which according to the Hollanders is correct.
the intake manifold is 3754844 which I can't find in the Hollanders.

the pivot lever for the accelerator linkage is in the forward boss which I am told is correct and the rod from the gas pedal fits perfect.

the lever itself is actually too wide. and the pivot hole was too small for the stud.

the rod from the lever to the carb was an inch too long otherwise it fit perfect.

the whole lever assembly when all hooked up is almost in the way of where the exhaust pipe connects to the manifold.
I'm hoping that a good exhaust guy can make it fit ok.

I'm wondering why would the pivot lever be that much different. my old 216 lever fits on the stud perfect but is not the correct shape.

the lever I have is from a 54 truck.
the intake manifold is a puzzle. what is it supposed to be?
maybe they didn't list every # in the Hollanders?

one way or another i'll get everything to work.

any thoughts?

rolf

3835911 = 1953/54 235 Corvette? and 1954/55 car/truck 235

Engine Serial Number: F54Z
F = Flint, MI
54 = 1954
Z - car 235 regular engine (mechanical lifters)

exhaust casting codes

intake casting codes (top of page)

Neither of your codes are there. There might have been other codes in later years.

Do you have an updraft carb/manifold? 50-57 COE and DD exhaust manifold (3835587)

Your intake manifold code does not match any of the 50-57 COE/DD codes. Is there a date casting code on it?

Tim

i found this thread denny graham started on chevy chat.
i'll quadruple check that the '8' in my number is an '8' or a '6'.

"There were only two intake manifolds used on the passengercar and conventional truck 235 engines (from 1950-1962)

The 1950-1958 was 3835590.(casting number)
The 1959-1962 was 3754644 PART NUMBER. The book dosen't show the casting number for this one but the box the carburetor sits on and the runner was lowered a bit so as to make the carburetor lower for the lower hood line on the 1959 and up cars. Thos was also used on trucks as it was cheaper to use one intake for all models."

tim the '8' is definitely an'8'. the box as mentioned above is an inch higher on the manifold with the 8386922. so I guess I have a manifold that is 59 or later. the only other numbers on it are a couple of 7s in two different places and B142 which is probably the date code interesting stuff rolf
