Do you have proof positive that this alternator is 6 volt. As Baldy hinted at, finding a 6 volt voltage regulator that was compatible with a alternator might be a chore. I don't know if there was a internally regulated 6 volt alternator made. If you are going to put a alternator on something vintage, then there goes the stock appearance...why not do the same swap but make it a modern 12 volt alternator...they look almost identical and you dump the regulator!

They have instructions on how to connect them on the site too. Ditto the above on the possible pitfalls if you don't know what you're looking at. If you have a generator/alternator rebuilder in the area, they could probably tell you what you have.

If you are going to stick an alternator on your truck, stock appearance obviously doesn't concern you. I don't know what the market was for all of 5th Avenues 6 volt alternators, but in your case, replacing a 6 volt generator with a 6 volt alternator would not get you an invitation to the next Mensa meeting. Switching your system over to 12 volts is pretty darn painless, both technically and financially. If you are bound and determined to buy that 6 volt alternator, do it as a business venture. Polish it and paint it and sell it for four times what you paid for it. You can buy a 12 volt alternator for under $75.00 dollars. I feel better now!
