This isn't X-spurt testimony, just my opinion. If you are going to stick an alternator on your truck, stock appearance obviously doesn't concern you. I don't know what the market was for all of 5th Avenues 6 volt alternators, but in your case, replacing a 6 volt generator with a 6 volt alternator would not get you an invitation to the next Mensa meeting.
Switching your system over to 12 volts is pretty darn painless, both technically and financially. If you are bound and determined to buy that 6 volt alternator, do it as a business venture. Polish it and paint it and sell it for four times what you paid for it. You can buy a 12 volt alternator for under $75.00 dollars. I feel better now!
