I used blue glass that I carefully cut to fit the space that the original crumbling plastic lens fit into. I elected to go with blue to match the common modern color for high beams. Red just seems like a warning light color to me. Here is a photo I took of my cluster after restoration. I used a flashlight to illuminate the high beam indicator. If you go with glass, you can find the color you want in the stained glass section of a big box craft store or similar.

It's a mylar or plastic thin sheet. I think I sent away for a free sample stack of them and used the green and red for some dash stuff. Photo shops should have it. Vendors sell the whole original turn sig lens kit for TF but it's green.

If you use stage lighting gels you'll be fine. Stage lights put out a massive amount of heat. The high beam indicator on my 52 3100 comes on red when the head lights our turned on, and will change to a bright light when the head lights are switched to bright, so I have a high and low beam indicator light in my dash. I think this is correct for this year and model truck.
