What color was the high beam indicator on a 1949 Chevrolet 3100 Series Truck? My hi beam indicator lens is completely gone. Any suggestions on best thing to use to replace that lens would be much appreciated.

I think red. It was red on my '52, but I changed it to blue. I used blue glass that I carefully cut to fit the space that the original crumbling plastic lens fit into. I elected to go with blue to match the common modern color for high beams. Red just seems like a warning light color to me. Here is a photo I took of my cluster after restoration. I used a flashlight to illuminate the high beam indicator.

If you go with glass, you can find the color you want in the stained glass section of a big box craft store or similar.

Definitely red. A small piece of translucent red plastic glued onto the back of the gauge plate will do fine. Steal the piece from your kid's 3-D glasses...

Photographers use a color filter called Gel Filters. It's a mylar or plastic thin sheet. I think I sent away for a free sample stack of them and used the green and red for some dash stuff. Photo shops should have it. Vendors sell the whole original turn sig lens kit for TF but it's green.

I used glass because I did not want the indicator lamp melting a plastic lens.

If you use stage lighting gels you'll be fine. Stage lights put out a massive amount of heat. The little dash light, not so much.

On a related note. What about the TF vehicles. My 58 Burb is just white with no color in front of it. The turn signals are green.

Thanks

Whatchu mean Larry? what is white and what is green? Go to Classic Truck Parts of America and search 24-612 and see if that is what you need.

The little round indicator in the center of the gauge cluster is plain white. The two arrows in the gauge cluster for the turn signal indicators are green.

Larry: The middle is high beam indicator, I believe is supposed to be red. The arrows should be green.

The high beam indicator on my 52 3100 comes on red when the head lights our turned on, and will change to a bright light when the head lights are switched to bright, so I have a high and low beam indicator light in my dash. I think this is correct for this year and model truck.

No, that is not correct. You do not have good grounds to your headlights and are getting feedback from the low beam filament to the high beam filament through the common ground terminal.

Maybe he is seeing some shine from the other dash lights.

Isn't there a cardboard tube on the high beam bulb to prevent that light leakage?
