I think you mean a "W-1". | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | A carburetor is simply a chunk of metal with a hole in the middle for air to pass thru with another hole plumbed into the side from a source for fuel. If you can get it to fit and get it hooked up to the controls, fuel and vacuum lines then sure it will probably run. How well it will run is another matter and if the throttle shaft is badly worn it will still run the engine but not very smoothly. Is it ok to use? All depends on what you're expectations are.

Are there a lot of old vehicles up in Homer? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,554 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,554 | Not a great amount of old vehicles, I know of several. There is at least one more bolter that I'm friends with, Homeradam. Now that I think of it I know of at least 2 early 40's IH pickups and another 46 chevy pickup, my neighbor has a FULLY restored AD that is beautiful. I know of another AD that was done by patricks. RW, I'd look up the other guys and see If I couldn't find a carb designed to fit your truck.

Try to find an original designed for that engine and then rebuild it - get the carter spec sheet and follow it. I had no idea carter was so precise until I started to buy up old inventories - they were manic about them. What IH carb, a tillotson or zenith? is that what they used? I've always had deep respect for the IH carbs but never did one from late 40's

Rebuild kits, other than floats, are easy to find, and they take the same jets as the 2 and 4 barrel modern Holley carbs. I'm running a pair of them on mine, sourced them from a later 240 Black Diamond. I did have to modify the linkage to make them work, as the IH intakes are on the opposite side of the engine from Chevrolet.

Sounds like there are a few of you right there in Homer. When you're working with parts that are more than half a century old such as a carburetor, you can bet the farm that it's been rebuilt at least once probably several times. A lot of guys neglect to put the tags back on, I suppose the train of thought is that once they rebuild it, there won't be need to do it again.
I'm pretty sure Google earth is up dated more often then that so you probably are on stage. Of course, I didn't have a chance to canvas the whole town. I was thinking McCabe and Mrs. Miller, instead you guys got a sprawling metropolis up there. DG
