So I finally got my dream truck! I have several friends that are into classic cars and trucks and they have been trying to get me in.

When I first laid eyes in it, it looked like this:
Love at First Sight! (photobucket)

I started checking it out and he said he'd sell and give me an awesome deal. Said it was originally his grandfathers and had been a pulpwood truck, flat bed, wrecker, dump, etc over the years. I was in love but I knew nothing about old vehicles, restoration, etc.

I hated to see it sit there and rot any further, so I called a friend who knew what to do with it. He went and picked it up for the same price he offered it to me! Even called to tell me that the owner poured a little gas in the carb and drove it up on the trailer!

I knew I had missed out! Several months later, I get hired to help shuttle old trucks for the Vintage Car Club around for a movie being filmed in our area. The fever started getting worse. So I contacted the guy who had it and asked what had happened to it. He had sold it to his daughters boyfriend... frown I asked if he wanted to sell it and the reply I got was: "No. I just ordered parts for it." I was sad.

Then one day, out of the blue, I get a text message that says "hey, you still interested in that truck?" Ends up his normal daily driver blew a motor and he needed some $$ to fix it. So I paid more than the original amount, but I finally got it.

Great stories and its nice that they remember you when it was time to let it go. It looks in good shape, or at least compared to what some of us drag home!
Thanks for the pics and keep us posted on progress and ask in the forums when you need help.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

I sold a 57 truck to buy a kaw vulcan 1500, then traded the bike for a 52 dodge wayfarrer buisness coupe, traded that for a harley, I was going down the road one day and their it was my old kaw. it was fate so I got it back. then I traded the harley for my 51 panel.

Thought I'd post an update... I've been meaning to write up a better story and document my journey with this truck, but seem to enjoy working on it more than writing about it! smile

I have now relined all brakes, re-assembled rear hubs and brakes, removed front axle and replaced kingpins and such. Reassembled front brakes and with brake adjustment and bleeding, should be ready to move under it's own power!!!!!

Finally got out on the road and discovered the old dry rotted tires are egg shapes from the years of sitting flat! So off with the tires:

And upon inspection, decided to have the rear wheels cleaned, blasted and powdercoated...

Pic of rusty wheels

Got them to a friend who has a custom coatings shop and in the mean time have my new tires, tubes, and liners waiting... Also, picked up two 16" front wheels from a junk yard off a 1980 1-ton chevy. Will use these as I still search for matching 18's to have all 6 matching. Kind of like the rake with the 16s on the front though! smile
