My fabricator is completing my cab repair and floorboard installation. I am very happy with the work performed so far. One thing he suggested was to cover the spot where the battery was originally located under the passenger side floor and relocate the battery. I was wondering if anyone had relocated their battery on 47-53 Chevy trucks and if so what locations are the best. I am ruling out under the hood and want a frame mount battery box. I am thinking behind passenger front tie or behind passenger splash apron,

Will the new location be as easy to get to and as much out of the way as is the original location?

There is an after-market battery box that drops down. It can be mounted in the original location.

And if you get the stainless steel version it works great and lasts forever. Use a side post battery so the cables can be disconnected first and it drops out in ten seconds plus the cables don't have to be long enough to allow for the battery to lower down.

I relocated mine under the hood in the inner fender.

Mount it anywhere you want. Some of the newer dry cells, you could even mount in the cab, under the seat or something.

A previous owner of my '54 panel truck used what looks like the battery tray out of a '55.2-'59 and mounted it on the firewall.
The original box has been cut off the frame along with the running board brackets. I may move the battery back under the floor when I get around to replacing the brackets to put the boards back on.

The neatest thing about this era is they used real estate that is unused and left dormant while the engine compartment is all full and cluttered. I am very pleased to have my dual MC and my battery under the floor. It keeps the bonnet all nice and organized!
