Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 49 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 49 | I have a 1950 GMC 1/2 ton, and just had a differential shop install a new 3.55 gear set, which also included a new oakie bushing. I took the torque tube off the truck and brought them that to install all the new parts in.
When I got the torque tube back from the shop, everything looked good to me, except the new oakie bushing was protruding about 1/8 inch from the end of the tube. I took pictures of everything before I brought it to them, and the old oakie bushing it had was flush with the end of the torque tube (I actually drove the old one out, so it did previously have an oakie install, and both the original front and rear seals had been removed). There are also no rivets or pins on my truck to block or hold the bushing in place.
My question is, is it ok if the bushing is sticking out that 1/8, or will that not be an issue? I did try driving in a little with the small hammer I have, but couldn't get it to move. The shop is a bit of a drive from my house, so if its ok sticking out that 1/8 I wont worry about it, but if its critical that is flush with the end of the tube, I have no problem bringing it back. Just looking for a second opinion on this. I have read on other post that guys guess it will be alright as long as the u-joint slides on all the way. I would assume this to be correct as well.
I can send a picture to anyone if they want to have a look at how far out it sticks.

| | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | The only problem I see would be if the rear yoke will be prevented from sliding back far enough to clear the back of the transmission and front yoke when raising it into place. It will most likely work fine.

Then I tried a 1.5 inch impact socket and it still didn't move. I just didn't want to push my luck and smash it to hard and burr it up if it was going to be ok sticking out a bit.
