Rev the engine up & it should read 7-7 1/2 volts. Like Baldy says watch the ammeter on the dash. It should show charge with the lights on & speed the engine up a little.

Lesson learned, Don't buy a cheap VR. Don't forget to re-polarize the VR if it is replaced.
