The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline Ring Gear

I have a 1948 1 ton panel and trying to find out what rear end I have. I was told to take off back cover and count the teeth in the ring gear. I did and have 32 teeth. Not sure if it is a 4:11 or 4:56. There was another gear but not sure if it was the pinion but it has 18 teeth.

Your rear axle is a 7 to 32 ratio which equates
to a 4:57 rear.
The ( 18 ) toothed gear you saw was a differential
side gear & it has ( 18 ) teeth.

I have a eaton rear axle in my 1954
Chev 3600 the same as yours, I do believe.

The pinion gear has ( 7 ) teeth.
