Fellow ODSS brothers;
We all have memories of the winter of 2010, so I give you the following information that was received this evening. The European model and another forecast model (not the NWS) are showing a in their words "a crippling snow event for February 8th thru the 10th, with accumulations of 24 to 34 inches of snow, areas to be impacted will be Md, Va, Pa, NJ and NY" It looks like a Nor Easter colliding with an arctic cold air mass.

This information was passed onto Mrs, by a coworker who is a member of the Kent Island Fire Department. There has also be some discussion
of this possible storm on the Delmarva firefighter forum.
Follow this closely and make necessary preparations.

Well nuts! I was hoping it might delay one week (or maybe that won't matter since that snow will probably stick around).

We have a Southern Maryland Christmas Tree Farmers meeting at our place on the 15th (since no one else wanted to do it but we DID want to do a farm site meeting). But if we have that much snow, there might not be much FARM to look at.

The pond looks nice all frozen with drifty snow on it ... from the computer room windows!!! With the heat on 70!!!

My plowtrucks been working well so far this year with two plowable events. I really think that a storm of equal of 2010 could shove it much closer to an early grave. Thease small events are good enough for me.

Boy, I sure am glad Hurricane Irene supplied us with a whole bunch of nice oak firewood that's just perfect for burning right about ... now.

Mikey -- Here's a new plow truck for you There's a couple of them sitting up there. Rip out the 6.2 boat anchor, swap in your gasser and plow and be back in business.

That truck looks like its in good shape. Rust looks limited. But my 1 ton build has gotten some well needed funding from these weather events we've had. I'm sticking to the plan to build what I want and how I want it.

My wife came home talking about this yesterday. From what I understand this thing is growing all kinds of legs on Facebook. Of course I had to ask her if "there were a bunch of meteorologist on Facebook" (my doubtful sarcasm didnt go over very well). Personally, I hope it doesn't happen. The money would be great but doubt that Ol' Heavy D could survive another 2010 type storm. Plus, I have already fretted enough about barns, horses, vehicles, shops and this 105 year old building that I take care of for a living with the extreme temperatures we have been having.
I think today I will go out and buy a new snow shovel.....maybe that will be the dagger that will make this storm fizzle out.

Hey Billy! You know what's been strange about this year down our way? Most of the neighbors are out of firewood. The one fellow who had 10 trees fall (one on his house) on his farm, back with Irene I think, has just about sold all from that storm. He had a HUGE pile last spring. Figured it would be there. Figured wrong.

Never thought I'd see the neighbors *buying* firewood. Even Leland's folks!

We are okay here. Our biggest problem with this cold weather has been poor Sven. The pond is frozen solid (neighbors have been playing hockey on their's), so we brought the duck into the garage. Last weekend when the temps got back up, he wouldn't go out. Dang ... a HOUSE DUCK!! (Well ... garage.) He seems pretty happy out there. The cats go and visit him regularly. It seems to cold in the garage for my taste. Oh, and yesterday John took you old red bread tray from long ago, and set up a little pool for Sven. So now he can preen himself. Hasn't gotten in it yet but we'll see. The wildlife lady said he should be fine. He'll go out when he's ready.

Talked to our peeps in Alabama yesterday, too. Man, they are just beside themselves. Kinda like the mess in Atlanta, but they don't get any news coverage.

I like it, a house duck! I think you could cut open a hole in the garage floor and make a nice permanent pond for Sven. It might be a nice attraction for the gift shop too.

I have found myself in need of wood again. I have plenty of green wood for next year and the year after but am out of burnable. I have been burning some of the first split but the stove (and the chimney) ain't liking it too much.

What a mess that was down south. My sister is Raleigh said it was 67 on Monday and 25 on Tuesday.
Crazy winter.

If the ol' Plowtruck keeps running as it is right now. She will be making the trip to Georges. I'd rather it than my Dually get beaten up. I'll be looking for some 1984 to 1990 1 ton Chevy truck parts. I got a list.

Still plenty of snow on the ground here... we don't need any more. If memory serves, 2010 was the only year we had to cancel the "tour".

Weather don't look as threatening as it did earlier. Took the plow off the truck and plan on an oil change and pump fluid change tomarrow. Then tighten the belts and wash it. Should just be a rain event here the rest of the week. Also spent the day in the CB radio shop in Ruthers Glenn and bought another CB for the truck and tuned the antenna and reset the one on my Silverado.

Oh, by the way, Sweet. Any chance of some beer from our favorite brewer?

Certainly. If Mr President or Alec does not mind stopping by one of the source houses to pick it up, I can make the arrangements.

I will be happy to stop at the outpost and pick up.
Maybe they will still have some 16 or ipa left.

Speaking of major storms, I know yesterday wasn't supposed to be major but how the heck can you call for an 8-10" snowfall and not get nuttin, ziltch, nada! Not even a trace. In fact if you didn't happen to look out the window at the exact time you wouldn't have even seen a snow flake. Thats a great gig that you can be that far off and still get a paycheck.
I guess it could have been worse, they could have called for sunny and 70 and we could have gotten 10"!
